I just want to share a little of the book with you because it has helped me get back on track.
Day One
Record the adantages of losing weight.
These are called response cards and are an essential tool that will help you change your mindset and overcome the sabotaging thinking that interferes with losing weight. They also help you motivate yourself every day so that you can stick to your diet, apply good eating habits,deal with hunger and cravings, resist emotional eating and get right back on board when you make mistakes.
You'll read these cards every day as you lose weight and periodically for the rest of your life. They are an essential part of the Beck Diet Solution program.
Today list all of the reasons you want to lose weight,think of all the advantages of losing weight and write them down while they are clear in your mind. You can put them on an index card and may want to make several copies to put in different places where you can read them at least twice a day. You can type them up, make a screen saver out of them, post them on the frig, where ever or how ever you want to have them around where you can see them and read them as often as you need to but at least twice a day for now.
Try to think of as many advantages as you can. Here is a sample list:
I will look better I will be more attractive to others I will be able to wear a smaller size I will feel in control I will be happier when I look in the mirror I won't feel so self-conscious I will be in better health I will be able to exercise I will live longer I will have more energy I will do more things I will like myself more I will have accomplished something I feel is important I will look sexy I will have less knee pain My back won't hurt so much I will be happy when I step on the scale I won't be embarrassed about my appearance
Decide right now when during the day you are going to read these cards. It may be first thing in the morning, mid afternoon or in the evening when you feel like snacking and going off your program.
Schedule when you will read these response cards at least twice a day.
Read them again whenever you find yourelf struggling with cravings, temptation or sabotaging thoughts. Whenever you read what is on the card ask yourself how important is this to me?
If you need a reminder system to remember to read your response cards make some post it notes and put them where you will see them to help you remember to read your cards at least twice a day. Set your watch, cell phone, timer alarm or whatever deivce you have to remind you to read these cards. This is how you start to train your mind to think like a thin person.
You should all be looking for a pen right now and start making your list.
If you are having any thought of not doing this step, stop that type of thinking and start making your list.
